MAY 2019: THE MAKING OF CRIMSON ROSELLAS AND WARATAHS
WIP of Rosellas and Waratahs
After spending the first couple of months of the year on this portrait, and even letting it sit in a gallery for a few weeks, I had to go back to the drawing board. It was a tough call and a little dispiriting to discard weeks worth of work to start all over again. However, I am much happier with this version.
A little background about this illustration; the subjects are native Australian flora and fauna- crimson rosellas and waratahs. The patterns are traditional Japanese patterns, often visible on Japanese textiles such as the hemp leaf, waves and tortoise shell.
