JANUARY 2023: THE MAKING OF CORELLAS, CRANES AND COOKTOWN ORCHIDS
Inspired by my mischievous and noisy, suburban neighbours; flocks of long-billed corellas, I decided to make this species the main subject of my artwork. This bird with his prehistoric good looks were a pleasure to draw from start to finish. While looking for a flower to accompany this bird, I came across the Cooktown Orchid, emblem of Queensland, and thought it would be the perfect match to my bird owing to its colours and shape. The orchids have been drawn figuratively as a balance to the realistic representation of the corella.
